Paying for Alpha but Getting Beta?

Benchmark constraints can create unintended concentration in fixed-income portfolios, hindering alpha-generation potential. Relaxing these restrictions may enhance diversification and help unlock potential excess returns. In this paper, we illustrate how integrating less-constrained or unconstrained strategies can help enhance long-term risk-adjusted performance.

Mid-Year Outlook: Inflation to Keep Cost of Capital High until 2024

The US economic outlook has deteriorated compared to six months ago. Most people now believe that we’re in for a period of negative growth over the next three quarters. The question is whether the economy is in for a soft landing or a hard one. Either way, we think high inflation will keep the cost of capital elevated until 2024.

Clean Transition Investing: An Unprecedented Opportunity

The world requires substantial investment in the transition to cleaner sources of energy. We view investment in the clean transition as an overarching theme rather than a specific asset class. How Alternatives Can Address Your 60/40 Portfolio Blues

A long-held mantra—that a diversified portfolio of public equities and bonds is the key to a successful retirement plan—is now being challenged by secular shifts taking place in financial markets today, including the end of the monetary printing press that started in 2008. What’s an investor to do? Lead Portfolio Manager Matt O’Mara tackles this question in our latest white paper.

Why Alternatives in Your Retirement Portfolio

Watch Apollo CEO Marc Rowan and Lead Portfolio Manager Matt O’Mara discuss how alternatives might help investors address a unique challenge they’re facing today: How the end of a long period of loose monetary conditions—combined with other secular shifts taking place in financial markets today—have coalesced to challenge the long-held mantra that a 60/40 portfolio of public equities and bonds is the key to a successful retirement plan.

Alternative Perspectives

Master the Basics

Apollo defines “alternatives” as an alternative to publicly traded stocks and bonds, seeking excess returns at every point along the risk-reward spectrum. We group our solutions in three categories: Equity, Hybrid (as defined as a mix of equity and debt), and Yield. Apollo’s introductory videos describe the basics of each alternative asset class. Taught by Keith Black, Adjunct Faculty at the University of Massachusetts, the videos cover the full spectrum of alternative asset classes (including venture capital and commodities, which Apollo’s solutions don’t currently address). They provide a broad understanding of the space for those seeking to invest in, or to augment, their exposure to alternatives.
